It seems like a bit of an oversight that I haven't taken time to note that Scott Walker is one of the greatest singer / songwriters of all time. The dude has recorded some of the heaviest music will ever reach human years, and it still hits like a ton of bricks. It's simply a cultural injustice that Scott Walker never got as huge here in the USA as he did in England.

Anyway, the man himself has a new album coming out this May and you can view a great little interview piece about him over at You Tube that really gives a nice perspective on his creative output. It's worth watching, seriously.

And there's also a really mega-super-cool dose of old-school Walker Brothers goodness right here. I watched it like five times in row just now.

This video really amused the heck out me. It should seem kinda creepy that a high-school boy should have such a crush on Dakota Fanning that he can barely stand up and function when he meets her, but somehow it's not.

Nervous Kid Meets Dakota Fanning

The boy is so incredibly nervous to meet the teeny lil' celebrity that it just becomes strangely sweet in it's non-threatening anxiousness. Add to that the young fella's attempt at asking tough questions like "Do you go to school by a school bus?" in terrified English and the results make me laugh till I hurt. And Dakota's professionalism through the whole thing could teach Tom Cruise a thing or two!

I have to say I've been kinda bummed out that the mainstream media really didn't give enough due to the passing of Link Wray. The man was the physical manifestation Rock n' Freakin' Roll. He'll be greatly missed, but his legacy, not to mention the power chord, will live forever.

There is a terrific collection of posts, including a bunch of MP3s out there paying tribute to the Wray-man, and you can find them collected in one place thanks to the always fantastic blog PCL Linkdump, so groove on those for awhile.

And make double sure you visit that fountain of goodness we call casetta, cause he's got a batch of crucial Link Wray MP3s waiting to rock yer ass off. I knew he'd hook us up!

One of my all-time absolute favorite pop songs ever is hands down Marianne Faithfull's ultra-melancholy cover of the Stones As Tears Go By. The song is the audio equivilent of warm comfort food. I've got an mpeg of her performing this wonderful song on the 60's TV show Hullabaloo and was intending to post it at some point, but I don't need to do this now because the insanely cool blog blow-up doll has done it for me, with a higher quality clip than the one I had! Do yourself a big favor and take this one, especially in light of the current cold n' rainy weather here on the East Coast.

I think I'm gonna get one of those nifty video i-Pods just so that I can take this clip with me everywhere and play it at any moment I feel a little bummed out. Just wonderful.
